Confocal Microangiography

We developed a now widely used method for visualizing the details of the developing vasculature in the zebrafish, confocal microangiography (Protocol). Living embryos or larvae are injected intravascularly with fluorescent microspheres and "optically sectioned" using a confocal microscope. The "slices" are digitally reconstructed into 3-dimensional images such as the 5 dpf zebrafish head shown below.
